Potent Potables

Potent Potables are strong, alcoholic drinks and a recurring category on the Jeopardy! game show and on the Saturday Night Live skit 'Celebrity Jeopardy!'

Potent potables is also slang for marijuana. These artist creations depict the alcoholic drink meaning, with several showing absinthe.

Artisan of the Week - The Cakery Fakery

The Cakery Fakery is an Etsy shop that makes beautiful 'fake' cupcakes - or what they call 'cupfakes'! I love their tag line: "All fun, no fat!"

Made from a variety of materials including polymer clay, spackle, charms and real cupcake liners, these delicious creations can be used as photo props, paperweights or home decor.

Some of my favorites are shown below:

Inspiration

I get inspiration from browsing through bookstores, thrift stores, antique shops and traveling. Here are some pictures from my latest 'inspiration treks'

These were in the garden of a historical home that I toured.

On the wooden garage doors at the former Phoenix home of Cindy & John McCain (yes, the John McCain who ran for president against Obama.)

The paint had long faded on these doors at the crumbling remains of a hotel in the 'ghost town' of Jerome, Arizona.

TURQUOISE - 2010 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and color standards for the design industries, has selected PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise as the color of the year for 2010.

"Turquoise transports us to an exciting, tropical paradise while offering a sense of protection and healing in stressful times." (Pantone)

The color combines the soothing qualities of blue with the invigorating aspects of green. The color of real turquoise mineral/stone varies from white to a powder blue to a sky blue, and from a blue-green to a yellowish green. The blue is attributed to idiochromatic copper while the green may be the result of either iron impurities (replacing aluminium) or dehydration.

Turquoise works well with a variety of looks including Southwestern, Tribal, and Tropical.

Turquoise complements all colors by adding a dash of excitement to neutrals (tans, grays, beige) and browns, complementing reds (think red coral) and pinks, createing a classic maritime look with deep blues, livening up greens. It can be especially trendy paired with yellow-greens.

I have lots of Turquoise colored items in my shop, as well as real Turquoise jewelry and pendants - so take a look!
